Communication - not just blah! blah!

"Communication - the human connection - is the key to personal and career success".
                                                                                                                          - Paul. J. Meyer.

"People fail to get along because they fear each other, they fear each other because they dont know each other, they dont know each other because they have not communicated with each other".
                                                                                                                       - Martin Luther king Jr.

"You can have brilliant ideas, but if you cant get them across, your ideas wont get you anywhere".
                                                                                                                                   - Lee Iaococca.

Famous and successful people have always been emphasising on how good communication can take you places.

In business and profession, you meet many and different kinds of people. Communicating with each one is an experience of its own kind. Here, the skill set includes - 'leadership', 'open - two way' conversation. Clarity plays important role here. Marketing, advertising, public relations all come under business communication. Media of any sort, presentations, employee relations, all these too are a part of it.

In relationships though, you cannot be always to the point or sharp. The biggest hinderance in such communication would be 'lack of listening skills'. Speaking is not the only attribute of communication, but having a patient ear is also vital. Also listening carefully, to understand and then react, is essential. Which inturn minimises misunderstandings and quarrels. Healthy communication in relationship makes the bond stronger!
Assumptions should be 'dumped' in case of communication. Also, donot take things for granted. Everybody has a different perspective to look at things, 'understand'!
Intuition and logic add sense to any communication. Honour your gut feeling. Apply rules to your words through logic.

Writing - is an easy and effective way of communication. Good writing skills can put forth, your ideas, opinions and views, easily. Here, the other person isnt face to face, so, the hesitation of facing someone and speaking is erased. You can be more open and without any fear or doubt or prejudice(if any), can convey your thoughts. Some people also communicate through Music. Here, your emotions are revealed through music. But this communication depends more or less on interpretation - the way the audience interprets the music - the feel of emotions is displayed accordingly.

You have to work hard on your body language for effective communication. For a non-verbal communication your body movements convey or express the information. So, only your posture or facial expression or gesture, would be enough to jugde you. Appear more positive, engaging and approachable!

Friendliness, confidence, open-mindedness, respect, being polite, are few other characteristics needed for good communication. Showing empathy towards other person is also important. This helps us to offer what the other person wants and makes him/her feel - heard and understood. The art of concision is also critical - What to say and what not to! Also, it eliminates redundancy without omitting important information. Courteous communication makes it more sensitive, reflective and also maintains enthusiasm of the listener.

In short, good communication is like oxygen to life - very essential. Its one of the main ingredients for successfull recipe of life. So choose your words properly to open any heart or shut any mouth!
