Enchanting God - Shiva!

The Trichakshu, The divine, The Serene! Lord Shiva is blue and dark, He is a male -The Shiva and a female - The Shakti.
He is the God who loves music - carries  'Dumaru' in His hand. The chants of "bum bum bhole" - as the hysteria reaches a crescendo, the Shiv Bhakts are in a state of trance when they pray to Him.
Shiva also loves the art form of 'dance'. His 'Tandava Nritya' , as it is known, is legend in its own way. He is thus called "Nataraja".

Yes, He is the God of anger too! His Rudravtaar with His third eye open - to destroy the evil forces of nature, is a known Saga. Yet, He is mentioned as "Bhola Shankar", who believes in his devotees and their honest prayers. No doubt a demon like 'Ravana' sang hymns in praise of Shiva and worshiped Him so ardently that this 'Mahadev' blessed him with power and wealth.

Shiva has been a hermit who leaves on Kailash Parbat. He is ascetic who is detached from wordly possessions. He is known to have 19 Avataars.
In one avataar, He has been a good son - 'Piplaad', in one a bull-faced deity - 'Nandi', the keeper of herds. In one, He has scary tall image with burning eyes and feiry hair -'Veerbhadra' - along with the birth of 'Bhadrakali' - wrathful incarnation of  Devi. His 'Bhairava' avataar is associated with annihilation. 'Ashwatthama' is said to be an element of Shiva too - who is a 'Chiranjivee' and a mighty warrior. Shiva had to take avataar of 'Sharabha' - lion's body and bird's head, to tame Narasimha. The next avataar is 'Grihapati' - the Lord of all directions. In 'Durvasa' avataar Shiva is a sage. The mighty 'Hanuman' is a very well-known avataar of Shiva - in a form of monkey. The 'Vrishabh' avataar - form of ox- was taken to kill the cruel forces of 'Patal-lok'. There are 11 more, different avataars which have a unique reason for Shiva's birth as them. He can be found in all forms that can be!

He bears a crescent moon on His head - depicting Him as cool and calm. His body is covered in ashes - which depicts that all material things come to an end - in ashes, and spiritual liberation is important. Shiva's matted hair- Jata - shows that He is beyond standard definition of beauty. The God who has River Ganga flowing through his head - why would He need to maintain His hair? He has a Blue throat - from drinking poison churned up from Samudra Manthan - He cools it by carrying a serpent around His neck. The Trident in his hand represents the three aspects of - 'creator', 'preserver', 'destroyer' and its equilibrium.

Thus, This 'God of The God's' is fierce yet compassionate, He is the end and the beginning. I bow down to Him now and always!
