Marriage, the union of two souls!
I just attended a wedding ceremony. The groom and bride all decked up. The 'baratis' dancing. The groom riding the horse, the bride in her doli. Everything was colourful, fun and bright.
On the way back there was alot going on in my mind. I was thinking about this whole affair - Marriage. Is it all about two perfect individuals coming together, tying the nuptial knot, to become a perfect couple? ..........Actually, No!...... Marriage is all about imperfect couple learning to enjoy each others differences. On THE DAY we are all happy, excited and its all goody goody feeling.......but the real meaning of coming together, staying together is realised later. You have to adjust with your spouse, his/her habits, mood swings, likes-dislikes, behaviour and the list is exhaustive!
The roots of marriage are deep, the covenant has to be solid, love in abundance, life- with its ups and downs. The partners must learn to love, believe in each other even on those days when they struggle to like each other, find each others faults, donot agree on the same thing.
Marriage is like farming... you sow, you care, you nurture, you nourish, you reap! Its a journey not a destination.
If you keep arguing - proving each other wrong, trying to be one-up, then your marriage is going to be a walk in the park- Jurassic Park! Mellow down....
They say "successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person" - I agree totally! Been there -done that!
But my view is that marriage isnt a business to make it successful and reap profits...its an everlasting promise to be together in sunshine and dark, in good and bad times, in struggle and happiness.
Great marriages are built brick by brick, day by day, over a lifetime. If you want it to last forever you have to shield it, protect it. If it ever gets tarnished, you lovingly have to polish it, until it gleams like new!
We keep getting husband-wife jokes on whtsapp regularly, and we all laugh it out. But the thing is, marriage as an institution cannot be taken lightly. Its not a dream sequence as shown in films...its not a bed of roses.... We say 'I Do', we take sacred oaths around the holy fire, we promise to stay together through tears, pain, laughter, joy, because thats what they call 'happily ever after'!
Its the trust, respect, honesty, understanding, friendship and faith that makes your relationship last. Its not the promise of fixing all the problems but of facing them together. When a girl leaves behind her parents, her home, her last name just for her husband, its his duty to stand by her through thick and thin. The girl also has her duty of keeping the new family happy and undisturbed.
Marriage is not a fairytale - it has its highs and lows - but if we strive together as a team we can surely make it into one!
