'Maaher' - Mom-Dad's house!



The word 'Maaher' in Marathi is derived from a Prakrit word - 'Mai-har' meaning mother's house. It is always a very emotional and affectionate subject for all married women.

Mom-Dads house will always be home for us. Even after being married for several years we always have that soft corner in our hearts for 'our maaher'. Even if our husband's place is now our house, still the longing to visit 'our maaher' is always there.

However big or small this place is, you treasure it. You keep revisiting the mermories of your childhood - the courtyard you played in, the garden you loved going to, the stairs you jumped up and down, the terrace you hid in -- keeps flashing infront of your eyes - unknowingly making you teary eyed. When you see an old album - your, then young parents carrying you in their arms or their laps - your eyes lit up and theres a smile on your face!

When at your house, you always worry about the day-the daily chores-the menu-the pending repairs and so on and so forth.... But at moms place you are relaxed. You need not worry about anything because you know that your mom is always there - taking care without saying a word - no noise - not much ado. She quietly manages everything. Also you never feel guilty or obliged for that - you feel its a right to get treated in a special way.
The late night long chats with mom, playing cards with your family, going to your favourite eataries, lazing around watching TV on the sofa...Ah! you are spruced up ....happy.

Moms place is so familiar - the knook and corner - you can go here and there, in and around - even with your eyes closed.

Its so pleasing to meet your friends there - just as you did before. Peeping into their houses without intimation or doubt - and, you are always welcome. The lanes and turns are 'by heart' to you. You just keep walking, strolling along and the road takes you there.

Not just your parents but also your friends' parents' are equally welcoming. You can drop by at anytime - they would hug you, greet you with broad smile - just like before - just like their own kids. The warmth, the affection, the bond never fades.
Even if you aint in touch 24x7, these wonderful people will be always there - smiling and delighted to see you even after a long time. Theres always this aunt whos a superb cook - will make you your favourite dish. Theres always this uncle who remembers how you were as a child. They share all those stories and revive the memories which have been hidden behind the times past. Theres always your gang of friends waiting for you to reunite and have fun together. Theres always this neighbour whos willing to keep aside their chores to spend time with you.

All these awesome people make you want to go there again and again. They aint gaining profits in doing so, but its because they love you.
All of this and much more makes your 'Maaher' a special place - The place where you go to escape, chill and feel that you are small once again!

  And 2024 ends..... Moira : Bound to happen! Chapter - 1.

She was sitting on the bench under the huge tree. Its extensive branches covered few more benches around. The park was a hangout place for teenagers. It was a playground for children and a perfect site for the exercise enthusiasts. People jogged, wearing headphones, determined to shed those extra kilos and be fitter, sticking to their new year resolutions, was a familiar sight here.  Yuga wasn't feeling the vibe today. She had left home as usual, early in the morning, in her tracks and tee to run a few miles, but after three rounds she just sat down on the bench.  "You've to score good grades at school!" "You've to do your Olympiads!" "You need to have a co-curricular activity or some sports activity!" "You should be able to dance or sing or play a musical instrument!" Oh my my! So much pressure on these little one's learning to adapt and traverse the lanes and by lanes of this complicated world. "But its a rat race! He/she needs to figure it out sooner. Studies, career, universities, the stress builds up as they advance into their grades (classes), isn't it?" Yes, true. It's a tough task for the coming generations. Population is ever increasing. Even though the colleges and courses are increasing in numbers but we have no say on the quality of education they impart. Also the leading universities and colleges are always the first priority, obviously. So the newbies are looked down upon. Also the reservations hinder the paths of many.
