Songs : Endless Resonance!
I heard this song from the movie 'Ijazat', 'Chhotisi kahanise, baarishon ke panise...', after a very long time. I remembered my 'sangeet', a day before my marriage, back in 2004. One of my young cousins had sung this song. She was hardly 6 years I guess. But I was surprised that she knew this old song and sung it with lyrics in place and very much in tune.
We all have our favourite songs, we have those special songs which we keep on humming, we have those songs which are always on our playlist. We also have those songs which, when we hear, bring certain memories back. We listen to variety of songs, on various occasions - be it a club to dance to a certain number - be it a karaoke to sing our hearts out - be it just a warm corner in our house, to relax and listen to our favourite song - be it a wedding celebration or a birthday or just a random fun party.
Each song has a story to tell. We listen to certain love song when we fall in love - we are happy and blushing. We listen to this song on a loop and keep feeling the good vibes again and again. On a certain day we fall out of love, the same song now becomes a breakup song, a sad song. Now we listen to it with a heavy heart and feel the bitter vibes. This love song now starts hurting our heart. Song remains the same but our interpretation changes.
When its hard to say something, I believe in using songs to say things. Songs also act as 'anodyne' to us many a times. If its hard to fall alseep, an old, soft melody comes to the rescue. Also there are some songs which I call 'shower songs', the ones which we sing in our bathroom.
Some songs are so beautiful, that when you hear them, you escape this world and quietly step into it and be in unison. The wordplay - the melody - the tune - the references - the overall effect - all this makes a song unique and we, over and over, keep on listening to it.
Sometimes the songs make us nostalgic, they make us emotional - sometimes it is the people and things, that come to our mind, when we hear the songs and that makes us hysterical.
They say "Music is a piece of art that goes in the ears straight to the heart."
Its amazing how, when you feel sad, every sad song seems like it was written just for you. Just like memories are captured in a photograph, our special songs do that too.
We believe in the power of songs. They have a magical effect on us. You feel energised when listening to a 'Kar har maidaan fateh' while working out, you feel serene when listening to a 'Sili hawa choo gayi', you feel happy listening to a 'Dont worry be happy', you feel motivated when listening to a 'Waving flag', you feel you are beautiful when listening to a 'Afreen afreen', you feel loved when listening to a 'Aaj jane ki zid', you trust some more after listening to a 'Nothing at all', you feel nostalgic when listening to a 'Phir le aaya dil', you feel like shaking a leg when listening to a 'Ankh maare'..........
Theres a swedish proverb which says "those who wish to sing, always find a song' - so find your song and sing it loud! Sing like the birds sing - not worrying about who hears or what they think. Keep listening to your songs. As Beethoven rightly said "Music can change the world!"
