Temptations!
Working out early in the morning is always healthy, but every Monday morning brings along this temptation to sleep past your alarm. The winters tuck you more inside your quilts.... Ah! getting up early after conquering the temptation to sleep - is no doubt just like winning a battle!
Now that you are working out... and you are doing your burpees...ah!...theres always this temptation to give up just as you pass the count of 15...you know that if you cross 20 and do it over again, you surely are gonna achieve that waist size....but your body tempts you to discount yourself off the pain. Now at this stage if you really give in, then the first 15 burpees are a waste....now theres a conflict going on in your mind...here you will have to look at the temptation in its eye and defeat it. Boommm you go and bullseye!
Somehow you have pulled yourself together for exercising and keeping fit, now theres this pastry shop you pass by. Yet again your mind starts the war.... those tempting devil delights...chocolate wrapped cakes, cookies, pastries and what not.... About the only time losing is more fun than winning is, when you are fighting temptation!
You manage to pacify your thoughts of binging on sweet things and continue your day. The next comes the screen... be it your mobile, your TV, your laptop.... you just click and theres this tempting world of virtual reality waiting to grab you in. This alluring monster gently holds your hand, pulls you in and makes you forget time, day, date....The fascination is such that you know its waste of time yet you want to be there. The tantalization of this esoteric world, the curiosity, the addiction leads you deeper and deeper into the abyss.
You find ways to overcome... you meditate...you engross yourself in work....you practise a 'No screen day'...you go out with friends-family... you indulge in other activities like sports etc....In short you just run away from this demon.
They say, "opportunity may knock only once, but this temptation - it actually leans on the doorbell".
I wont be able to suggest any perfect way to avoid temptations... because free cheese is always available in mouse traps...but its individual's call how you fight against your temptations. With every temptation there sure is a way of escape.
When someone says - "dont look", you always are tempted to look. When its written - "dont push the button", you always have that urge to push it. In such cases you always 'yield to temptations'.
The devil doesnt always come dressed in a red cape and pointy horns, he could come disguised as everything you have wished for! Theres nothing wrong in feeling tempted, but how you handle it, is where the problem could begin. The story of forbidden fruit is well known to all of us. They say that because Adam and Eve ate the apple - they gained knowledge of disobedience - that they didnt had before that point. This all spiraled downward further into what we have today.
Always weigh what you ought to get after losing to temptation Vs what you want in the long term..ask yourself - Is it worth?
Ralph Waldo Emerson rightly said, "We gain the strength of the temptation we resist"!
