Braying in rains! Monsoon wedding.

"Ghar mei pani ki bond nai hai, kaise gujara hoga? Barish kab hogi?", were the words on everyone's parched lips.

This year, Nandanpur was facing a drought. The lands were barren, cracked and people were nearly shrivelled.

The Sarpanch called a Panchayat urgently and all the Mukhiyas debated and discussed what's to be done. Someone suggested to go to higher authorities for water supply through tankers, atleast once a week. But that won't be sufficient, said the other.
They agreed with a tanker per week to start with. But the fights and chaos at the sight was unthinkable.
The local politicians were making excuses, to not visit the village, as it wasn't an easy job for them. They would've to shell out money, ment for the village, which they had already digested and burped too!

Every house was praying. Doing whatever they could for the Varun Devata (Rain God), to bless them!
The village was once a verdant and now converted to desert! Farmers were depressed.
People were losing hope and some wanted to leave the village, seeking opportunities in near by towns.

In the next Panchayat,  someone suggested that they should arrange a wedding. People were furious, in such a state, how could one think of a wedding? The person corrected them by saying, it would be a wedding between 2 donkeys. People thought the man was losing his sanity because of the stress. But the man urged people to listen to him. They say it rains if 2 donkeys get married, he said. Some were reluctant to believe, but some said let's give it a try! Some nearby villages too decided to participate, since facing the same problem.

The wedding was fixed. They found the most eligible bachelor donkey in the village Dumdum and a perfect bride for him Dhanno.
Both of them were decorated with flowers, garlands. Ladies also tried to drape a saree on Dhanno. A mufler was hanged on Dumdum's neck. A make shift pendal was built. Villagers were actually happy, after days of sorrow and worry. Their smiling faces brought a new hope.

The Pandit came in to the pendal. The bride and groom were brought in too. The rituals started. And with the last verse, it started raining cats and dogs. The monsoons had arrived! People danced, jumped, went crazy, drenched in rains.
The wedding actually turned in a Monsoon wedding!
Villagers couldn't have asked for more. Dumdum and Dhanno also started braying with the sight of rains! They brought back happiness in villagers' lives. They were literally treated like Gods. Villagers prostrated in front of the newly wed couple.

This Monsoon wedding is still talk of the town, in nearby villages and will remain the most precious wedding of the village ever!

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Though this is a work of fiction...there are instances of such events also in the news. People do become helpless and do many things which ain't considered normal. I am not trying to spread superstition here!
