Tum bin jiya jaye kaise? Regret of lifetime!

 "Please pick up the phone ammi, mei aaunga agli baar, pakka, InshAllah!", Noor kept reading the last message on her phone. Her eyes had swollen from crying for days now! Any amount of consolation was of no use. Allah's plan was discrete. She had missed the chance of talking to her son, one last time.





Sana, her daughter-in-law and Kainaat her granddaughter, left behind, after her only son Kabir's sudden demise, were also in deep shock.

Noor was a single mother. After her husband's early demise, she had raised Kabir alone. She was an independent woman. Kabir was an engineer and decided to shift to USA for better prospects, after his Nikaah to Sana. Noor didn't want to leave her country and her home. "Yeh ghar meine aur tere Abbu ne milke kharida aur sajaya tha. Mei ise chhor kar nahi jaungi", Noor had been adamant.



Kabir and Sana kept visiting her, regularly. Even after Kainaat's birth, they visited India during holidays. But as Kabir got tied up with work, frequent travelling became difficult for them.


Noor had always stayed alone, it wasn't a big deal for her. But now that she had a granddaughter, she often missed being with her. She missed oiling her hair, making them into braids of different styles. Kainaat used to tell her dadi stories of her school, in return would happily listen to her father's childhood stories. Noor and Sana used to experiment in kitchen, trying new gosht recipes on YouTube. They stayed miles apart but there was a loving bond between them.




That day Noor had called Kabir, "Toh inn chhutiyon mei aa rahe ho na? Kainaat ke liye nayi kheema recipe sikhi hai. Sana ke liye jhoomke banvaye hai, jo usey pichli baar acche lage the. Kabir, meri Eid to fiki rahi, tum log aate ho tab meri Eid hoti hai!". Kabir had told her that he was working on cracking an important deal for the company. Chances of his promotion would be high this time. He would visit once the deal succeeds. But it would take few months.
It was already 2 years now, Noor hadn't seen all of them. Her eyes longed for a glance of their smiling faces, Kainaat's giggles, Sana's chats. She insisted Kabir to visit the following month. But Kabir refused. Noor was annoyed this time.
She kept fighting with him on the phone, whenever they called each other. For months this went on. And one day she hung up and decided not to take Kabir's calls till he promises to visit her.



Kabir had cracked the deal. He was so happy, he wanted to share his happiness with his Ammi.
Kabir kept calling, but Noor didn't pick. Then Kabir left a message, in the hope, Ammi would calm down and call back. But next day, Kabir met with an accident. Noor couldn't forgive herself. She had lost a last chance of talking to her son. She repented her anger, she was left with a lifetime regret!

She was sitting on the bench under the huge tree. Its extensive branches covered few more benches around. The park was a hangout place for teenagers. It was a playground for children and a perfect site for the exercise enthusiasts. People jogged, wearing headphones, determined to shed those extra kilos and be fitter, sticking to their new year resolutions, was a familiar sight here.  Yuga wasn't feeling the vibe today.  "You've to score good grades at school!" "You've to do your Olympiads!" "You need to have a co-curricular activity or some sports activity!" "You should be able to dance or sing or play a musical instrument!" Oh my my! So much pressure on these little one's learning to adapt and traverse the lanes and by lanes of this complicated world. "But its a rat race! He/she needs to figure it out sooner. Studies, career, universities, the stress builds up as they advance into their grades (classes), isn't it?" Yes, true. It's a tough task for the coming generations. Population is ever increasing. Even though the colleges and courses are increasing in numbers but we have no say on the quality of education they impart. Also the leading universities and colleges are always the first priority, obviously. So the newbies are looked down upon. Also the reservations hinder the paths of many. Well, so what score is a good enough score...
