Waxing Gibbous- Just let her be!

"Have you seen Mrs. Bhat recently?, Aunty banne ki age mei she's trying to look 16!", said my 5th floor neighbor to me.

I had recently got into meditation and some spiritual well-being. They teach us not to get irritated easily, not to lose your temper over silly things. So I didn't react to my neighbor then and there. I entered the lift and in my head, I started thinking..."Aunty banne ka age? What's that...who decides? Who are we to judge?....".

I reached my floor, lost in my thoughts. The lift sound went..."You've reached your floor"...and I came to my senses. My WhatsApp notification popped. My friend Juili, had shared a message. "Freedom for a woman...At any phase of her age, she likes to look good......" reading the message I went inside my room. I sat on my desk and thought,  "Wow! I got a topic for my next blog   and a great way to vent out, without getting irritated". Smirkingly, I started penning down...

A woman, undoubtedly wants to look good at any stage/age of her life. What's wrong in that?
As a girl, at young age her mom takes care, to make her look good, tying ponies, cute braids, colorful pins, beautiful dresses. She watches her mom applying make-up, those lipsticks lined up on her dressing table, kohl, eye liners, compacts, day creams, night creams..etc..etc..And she decides to be just like her mom....always presentable!

Yesterday, my friend Ranjeet kaurh and me went for some shopping. I wanted to buy a gift for a girl of age 6, for her birthday. I liked a kitchen set, also a small dressing table (for girls to actually sit and do their own make-up), barbie dolls....but I asked Ranjeet if it was too sexist of me to buy a kitchen set or makeup thing for such young girl! She agreed too...she kept back, a nail grooming kit, she had picked up....We both smiled.

We bring up the daughters in a certain way. We want them to please first their parents then their in-laws.

A girl gets married, gets busy adjusting in her new life. She manages her home, if shes working, balances both the roles. She is expected to smile, endure and keep going. She literally gets tied up, more so, when she becomes a mother. She has to run up and down the house, feeding her kids, making them study, looking after husband's needs, looking after in-laws wellness.

She, in all of this, forgets to take care of herself....she forgets how, as a teenager she dressed up well...groomed herself...she forgets how she exercised and kept herself fit. She gets busy with so many things that she forgets to look beautiful!

But then, at the 'Waxing Gibbous' phase of her life, when she's somewhat free from the duties, she's been performing since years.... she goes back to that lost self of hers. She has now, time to exercise, run a few lapses, lose that flabby fat popped out here and there after the pregnancy and delivery.
She finds time to go to a Sephora or a Nyka, back to her days, sitting by a dressing table, rocking that winged eyeliner, covering her greys with the latest trendy tints, dabbing her lips with tissue paper for that long lasting lip color. She finds solace in company of her friends, her girl gang, sharing  and venting her woes, celebrating her birthdays, her achievements, meeting over a pot luck or dining in a posh restaurant. She packs her bags with exhilaration, for that ladies night out, or some solo trip or a long, weekend drive all by herself.

She gets time to go back to her creativity, she had embedded in a closed box. She takes out the sheets of paper to write,  to draw, to scribble, to paint....she sings, she dances, she cooks her favorite dishes.....She finally has that Me time!.....

I am not complaining or regretting to be a woman. I am not being feminist either. I just want to shush, my '5th floor neighbor' likes...by telling them Just let her be!

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Waxing Gibbous is 4th phase of moon...I've equated it to 'Woman in her 40's'.

And I hope Mrs.Bhat looks 16 or 60, whatever  shes fine with!
