Kacchi doriyan...haye kacchi doriyan.... Part 3 (Series - Her).
My dad was a salaried man. He did a 9 to 5 job. But we were a middle class well-off family. We could afford good meals, good education. My mother could attend her kitties, I could watch Madhuri's movies, could afford to buy those costumes for my dances and performances. My younger brother was a football fan. He took football coaching in a good academy. Everything was hunky-dory.
My father knew about my obsession with movies and acting, so he decided to meet a producer and take a glimpse at that world. He did some ground work, researched a few names in bollywood, met a few people. Finally he announced that he has some savings that he is investing in a movie. He smiled at me and said that he wants my dream to come true. He would launch me too, his movie debut along with mine.
I was excited. I jumped and hopped everywhere in the house. I kissed my mom a thousand times, hugged my dad and did a ball dance with my brother, twirling him till he got dizzy. We had a celebratory dinner that day. My mom cooked a lavish meal, all our favourite food was at the table. We laughed, chit-chatted and had a fun night.
The next day, my dad dressed up like a businessman, with a blazer and tie, was ready to start his new work. He had already resigned from his job to fully concentrate on this new venture. He was about to leave the house, mom brought out some dahi to give him a spoonful and wish him all the best. And just then the phone buzzed. My dad received the call and suddenly started sweating. He scrunched on the chair and the phone fell from his hand, hanging, by the wire attached.
Mom rushed to hold him. I picked up the receiver of the phone but it had disconnected. "Kya hua ji?", mom asked, we all were worried.
"Hum doob gaye. Everything is finished", dad said, as he banged both his hands on his head. My mom patted his back and I held his hand tight. "Dad please don't be upset, please share with us what happened", I murmured.
Dad told us that the money he had invested in, was a fake company. The person was a fraud and he had already cheated a few others, just like us. The social media wasn't in boom those days. So there wasn't much we could do to find out more about him. The police were also searching for him, but hadn't found a clue.
Mom couldn't control her tears. She kept weeping while catching her breath. My brother brought two glasses of water. Dad and mom took a sip but couldn't stop sighing. I glanced at my brother with a worried look, What next? What do we do now? Were the questions we both had.
Dad had done this for my sake, our family's sake. He wanted us to be happy. But our dreams shattered overnight. It was huge shock.
Few months passed, we were trying to come to terms with reality. Dad took a job at a small company, it paid less but atleast we had some income coming in. My brother stopped going to his academy and started looking for a part-time job along with his studies. My career in acting spotted a 'The End' board even before it had started. I had decided to quit dance but we needed money, so I took choreography jobs here and there.
At night, I used to blame myself for dreaming such a useless dream, which made my dad lose everything. I cried alone. I apologised to him several times, but he always said that it was his fault and I wasn't liable for it at all.
And then, one day, we got a call from one of our relatives. They said there's a perfect rishta for me. The boy has a decent job, his own house. They are educated people and I was a good match. My parents thought that if I get married in time, atleast I would escape this misery. And I thought that it would disencumber their burden, if I get married. They wouldn't have to worry about me and my dreams anymore.
And thus I got married into this house and decided to abide by the culture here. I had given enough trouble to my dad, not anymore.
But is this the end? Stay tuned for the next part!
