Patakha kudiyan!

I remember her vividly. She was elder to me, actually much much elder to me. I was merely a middle school going girl then and this didi was a college going beautiful lass. I loved the way she would dress up. Her floral dupattas with her colourful and fancy Salwar-kamej, the midi dresses with plunging necklines...Ooo! She looked sexy for sure, I can say that now . You know how it is, as small girls we are not allowed to say all those words or follow the ways in which these grownup didis of the colony deck up.

But I used to visit this Patakha kudi's place more often. Her effeminately decorated room with lavender curtains and sheers, her desk, having a small book rack, stacked with the Mills and Boon kinds. I used to peep in them when she was out of the room and she used to catch me red-handed, opps, red-eyed?...if I may say so. But the most alluring section was her earrings collection.

She had this huge assortment of danglers, rings, jhumke, chandeliers, hoops, studs, earrings in all geometrical shapes. She had neatly arranged them in cute boxes in an adorable organiser. I used to request her to let me try a few. The big rings that were bigger than my ears fascinated me. The golden silver dazzling ones were intriguing too. Didi rebuked me not to wear the heavy ones and I used to sulk over it. She told me they would damage my tiny ears and I seldom listened to her.

Then the didi's family shifted houses and I lost contact with her. I grew up and now could buy myself those big earrings, but somehow I felt that they don't suit me. Moreover, my ears were allergic to artificial ones. I couldn't wear them for longer time.

In college, I had a close friend, who sported those danglers, teaming up with any outfit, with jeans-tee or Indian attire. Those huge rings or hoops, or even heavy jhumkas looked elegant on her, and she reminded me of that Patakha kudi didi, of my childhood.

When I tried them, "Nahi yaar, mujhe suit nahi karte", was always my reaction. Hence, I didn't wear them frequently, only on few occasions like somebody's marriage or so.

Now we both are married, and I, still don't have that spunk to flaunt those heavy earrings and she, not only wears them but makes boomerangs and reels, swaying those dangly earrings in bright colours. And I love to watch them and send likes too.

There's this dear friend of mine. She adorns these vibrant, humongous, sparkling and twinkling earrings. A hard-core punjaban that she is, when she dresses up in shiny beaming suits, accessorised with equally gleaming hoops or chandeliers, she looks amazing, a perfect Patakha kudi.

My love for these pretty earrings is now limited to watching these beautiful ladies wear them. Me being a Patakha kudi, chances are quite low. You may catch this rare sight of me flaunting those, but, once in a blue moon day!
