Tu Jhoothi Mei Makkar - The experience (?)

When do you plan a movie date? Either it's some occasion like anniversary(spans from 1st month of dating to 100 days celebrations to wedding) or some special day(Birthday, Valentine's day, women's day etc) or it's a movie of your favourite actor/actress. But there are days when you make a sudden plan, just because you are bored and you want to dress up and go somewhere. And if it's your friends you are going out with, it's a 'Sonepe Suhaga'.

So yesterday was exactly that day when group of my friends decided to go for a movie, out of the blue. Our kids overheard our plan and hopped in, willy-nilly! Their board exams are over and now they are bored(Haha! tried some poetic effect there).

These days watching a movie with kids and that too teenagers, is a risk. You can fast forward something if it's OTT, you've a remote controller at home, but what do you do at the theatres?

The movie that flashed on the app was 'Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar'. Neither the actor is our favourite nor the actress, nobody knew the reviews, only had heard 2 songs, that too vaguely. But we just jumped on board.

We seated at the designated seat numbers. Boys decided to sit far from us, you know how it is, they want parents to buy tickets for them but then discord themselves in public. And adding to their luck, being a weekday, show wasn't housefull.

The movie these days never starts on time. The adverts consume so much of time that we forget which movie we're here to watch. The movie finally started after the National Anthem. And we were excited, making a boomerang of the title, to post it on our stories on Insta. Bahar aye hai to show off to banta hai na social media pe!

For the title, Ranbir Kapoor was dancing enthusiastically, with a dozens of others, gracefully matching steps. "This is going to be some fun", we thought and we kept going to find atleast some entertainment, but we didn't succeed much.

There are elements here and there added in, with a pinch of salt, like international holidays, to attract the youth. The beautiful cinematography of scenic locations, where songs are picturised, to have some cooling effect in rising temperatures. Bikini clad ladies, colourful costumes, shirtless men, beach sides, blue skies, one night stands, every masala found in the kitchen of movie-making, for ostentation of the Gen Zs and Gen Aplhas.

But then, they also have to take into consideration the older generations right, the Millennials, Gen Xs, boomers and  types. So they have to show some family values, respecting elders, dressing up in traditional costumes, something like that.

We Millenials are Bechares, the confused ones, don't know which category we belong to, modern or traditional! So then Shraddha Kapoor dresses up in a saari with pallu - nearly nil, putting it simply, it's there but it's not there, you know what I mean?

And I don't know why there's this obligation, for hundreds of dancers to be around the hero and heroine in any given song. And sometimes the background dancers are so good that we forget to see the leads(pun intended!).

And why would a rich guy who owns two Mercedes showrooms would do a side-business of breaking up people with their lovers? I mean how do you justify it?

"I sold four Mercs today but Baat nai ban rahi yaar! Kuch to kick chahiye life main. Ah! Let me start a new venture, helping people breakup". Is this what the guy contemplates?

The story leads us nowhere, and it really hurts my heart to say this. As a writer, however amateur I may be, but I know how difficult it is to pen down something, a small blog or a tale or a series or a novel. Even if I give some benefit of doubt to them, still, I would like to ask, why do you want to make a film? Just because you've money? Or because we audiences have money to fritter away and brush off our boredom?  What's wrong with bollywood these days?

A fancy title attracts viewers, well, who else but bloggers like me, would cognise this.

Shushh! I'm sharing a trade secret here. Sometimes we feel that the content of our writeup isn't very strong and we subterfuge our readers by picking a fancy title. You fall for it and read or just leave the page midway, either ways we get our views. So it's the same I guess, even if you leave the theatre in the interval, you've already contributed to the box office earnings.

To sum up our experience of this movie, my take-away would be that we friends enjoyed our time together, even if the movie wasn't up to the mark. I guess the kids enjoyed popcorn, sandwiches and their Coca-Cola even more (than the movie)!

So all the best if you are planning to watch this one!
