Brimful to void....(Abundance)
What is the hardest part of being a mom?
Well read somewhere.....
"The hardest part of being a mom is the fear of your nest being empty...one day".
It really touched my heart. It's an unsaid truth, we will all have to face it, no matter how much we rebuff the fact or procrastinate the thought.
As young mothers we receive abundant love from our kids. We love them equally. But what happens when these birds get wings and they fly away. Abundance and scarcity go hand in hand don't they?
I have tried to portray my feelings through this poetry -
Getting married to the one you love,
No doubt to your life, this joyous moment, you owe,
But you disregard the thought that you are flying away,
Leaving your parents' nest empty, keeping the sentiment at bay!
You happily settle in your new life,
You are a dutiful daughter-in-law and a near perfect wife,
You paint your colourful dreams, together with your better half,
Withstanding ups and downs, hand in glove, you cry and laugh!
Subsequently, to have your own family, you decide,
In you, a tiny being, starts to reside,
The journey from being a wife to mother starts,
Miraculously, now, in you, exist two hearts!
You nurture, you care, you surrender to all its needs,
Putting yourself later, primarily on it, paying heed,
Your kid is now in your arms,
You are in awe, gleefully praising his charms!
You clap, you encourage, all his playful games,
Kid falls and gets hurt, but your heart pains,
Throughout his ailment, you're at his bedside,
Keeping your comforts, sleep, everything aside!
He's your world now, his studies, his competitions, his wins and defeats,
I am with you and will always be there, you unfailingly repeat,
At times you nag him, at times you set free,
His ambitions, his success, him flourishing, as if, you foresee!
Now, he insists, on going away for further studies,
He wants to go out with his buddies,
He wants to live on his own,
Desires, to try staying alone!
You are afraid, but succumb to his wishes,
Waiting for the day, his graduation finishes,
You happily attend his convocation,
You enjoy together, a warm vacation!
One such day, he tells you this,
I've got a job, the opportunity, just can't miss,
He needs to move somewhere far,
You won't be able to reach by car!
Furthermore, the girl he loves, he brings her home,
You are then in a different zone,
Does he love her more than me?
What will the new equation be?
He starts his family, with his better half,
Oh! He's all grown up, my once a little calf,
Your heart keeps reassuring, at your behest,
You keep staring out the window, of your empty nest!
Birds fly one day, just like you had,
It's a certitude, despite being sad!
