From rancourous to amicable - Part 4.

We never had any pets in our house after that stern announcement.

But I forgot to mention that we have a farmhouse. The farmhouse is uphill and a stray dog had lost it's way, it happened to come there, few years ago. And now it was already, a pet.

This was when my younger son was just shy of 3. We were all celebrating New Year's eve there, along with our friends and family. So this Tommy(the pet dog, named by caretaker of farmhouse), was strolling around. I had already warned to tie him up as there were kids and strangers around him.

"But dogs are lovable, they don't bite", such misconceptions of so-called dog lovers, aided Tommy on being legs free (if I can say so).

We were having dinner in the patio. After the dinner was over, I collected the plates to take them inside. And I heard a loud scream. I rushed outside, only to see the worst. My younger son's forehead was profusely bleeding. I grabbed him and under the basin tap, cleaned his wound. It was a deep cut across his forehead, fortunately not hampering his eye.

We took him to the doctor with great difficulty. As it was New Year's no doctor was in town. We were, as it is, away from city. But one of my close friends managed to contact her doctor, who rushed to the hospital from his party.

It wasn't sure at first, whether it was a dog bite or my son had fallen on a sharp edge because of the dog's push. We had to see the CCTV grab to confirm the dog bite. My son wanted to feed the dog a chicken bone, but the dog was already eating. It thought that my son was coming for his food so the dog had attacked him. When my husband turned around he saw our son fallen down, abruptly he shewed away the dog. So the dog's teeth had scratched his forehead, tearing his delicate skin.

Surgeon was called in. He got nearly 20 stitches across his forehead and few on the side of his temple.

It was a nightmarish incident. I stayed with him for 6 days at the hospital.

My son is now 10. The scar is still visible on his forehead and so is the horrible memory in my mind.

The rancour which I am talking about kept getting stronger from such incidents.

Tommy is no more with us. But then, we had another Tommy who died too. Now we have Sonu, we have 25 hens and 3 roasters, we had 4 cats too. One of the cat was named Rani by my younger son. Rani would come hopping from wherever she was when my son called her. She tagged alongside him all around the farmhouse and the vicinity.

We also had a monkey who accidentally came in from the nearby forest and stayed with us for a while. But we registered a complaint with the forest officials and had to let go of it, back to the forest.

We also adopted a cow and her calf last year.

So being rancourous (though deceit it may sound now), but we literally have a zoo out there.

I had several reasons to hate them - the pets, but only one reason to accept, my kids love being with them.

I wasn't sure about what to write for this series with the prompt "My pets", as I am not at all a pet loving person. But here I am with 4 parts for this.
