After being a mom of two sons, sacrificing my sleep for years, finally when my kids sleep on their own....I start feeling insomniac.
I wanted that sound sleep.... to stop that endless train of thoughts which kept the crossing closed for hours, not letting me move ahead to my dreamland, and me, every day, ending up sleep deprived.
My face, in the mornings, with infinitesimal glow, hyper exhausted, dark circles widening their scope and trespassing the cheek area, making me throw awful expressions as I look into the mirror.
"Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the most sleep deprived of all?", answer to this question would've been quite obvious.
"Oh! I so hate being clicked", used to be my husband's dialogue, but I use it more often now. My husband's skin, inherited from his mom, always glowing, making our couple pictures seem like that of the black and white era (....Yes, exactly what, you are thinking!)
I wanted to sleep early so that I could wake up early. Just as the saying goes...Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man (also woman), healthy, wealthy and wise!
At night I can't fall asleep, in the morning I can't get up! - Unknown.
Exactly my condition.
Someone suggested that I should watch those Kdramas.
They are so lovey-dovey, they keep that enamoured feeling lingering, the OSTs are so romantic that even though you don't understand the language, you still repute as though you are afloat, killing all the futile thoughts, that good night's sleep is guaranteed.
I watched those Kdramas. I also got addicted to them, and the sound sleep we talked about, was no where seen. Instead, became more averted towards me.
Sleep is the best meditation - Dalai Lama.
And I, was the hapless one, who was sleep bereaved.
Then the other day, my friend suggested,
Drink some wine to cure your insomnia. The next thing I did was go for wine shopping. There were numerous kinds of wine....red wine, white wine, rosè, sparkling, fortified and what not. But I didn't know which one would cure my insomnia. So I randomly asked the salesman about it. And there he went.... Cabernet Sauvignon has 75 times more melatonin than Cabernet Franc while Nebbiolo has highest melatonin of them all..... "Woahhh! Hold on, stop", I shrieked in my mind, "Ain't getting watccha talking bout!", in continuation to that shreik.
He read my mind and simply said, "Buy this red wine - Château Lafite Rothschild (French wine)".
I took the bottle in hand and read the price, and murmured, "I don't want to buy a condo in France but just a red wine to put me to sleep, sound sleep not forever!"
He must've guessed looking at my frowned brows and the big 'O' that my lips had made. So he offered an affordable one - Cabernet Shiraz. Yes, totally cost-effective (or else Sleeping pills would've been budget friendlier).
So I came back from a mission, as successful as I wanted it to be. "Tonight's the night I will sleep like an angel", I thought.
So after finishing my chores, I entered my den (Theatre room) to watch some Kdramas. "Ok, lemme finish this episode and I will sip some wine and doze off ", me happy with my soliloquy. So I finish a series and in the flow, switch to another. As I look at the watch, "It's already 2:00 a.m!", I scream to myself. I had lost the track of time.
"Let me have some wine", I say. I open the bottle and pour into the glass. I finish it, but don't feel sleepy at all. So I switch on the TV again to complete the remaining episode, while sipping the remaining wine.
I wake up, in the morning, in the theater room, the wine bottle's empty, the episodes playing, someone banging the door. I get up quickly, trying to figure out exactly how the sleeping angel looked. And as I look into the mirror, the terrifying reflection scowling at me, "You dare sleep in again!".
