Never have I ever- Tale 2.

"Aai, I made Puranpoli today", I forwarded a pic of my not-so-perfect-yet-edible, puranpolis, on Whtsapp to my mom. As soon as there were blue ticks on my message, I got a call from my mom. "Did you make these? Really?", she was verifying, again and again. "I hope it's not a forward", she joked. I didn't get angry, I just laughed. Because I knew she won't believe her eyes.

Never have I ever liked cooking, since childhood. My sister used to show her interest and skills in kitchen, although being younger to me. She and mom would experiment with recipes, enthusiastically. While I would only be keen in tasting it.

"You will starve if you don't learn to cook", mom would put up her point. "There are restaurants everywhere Aai, why do you worry?", I would counter. "What will you feed your husband and in-laws?", her next point. "I will marry a restaurant owner, we all will eat at the restaurant", my arguement. My dad, who has studied law, would silently observe this court session scenario and would just smile. As if applying a bail even before the arrest. He has been a feminist, even before the word had gained much hype in the society. "Let the girls do what they want to", he would say, be it education or kitchen.

Cooking isn't a rocket science they say. But just because it isn't, is it compulsory to know how to do it?

Mom never pressurised me to cook though, she was only concerned about me, just like any of her counterparts.

Ah! Yes, so how did I make those puranpolis...! Well, there always comes a time in your life when apathy has to be quashed and remoulded into atleast concern, if not enthusiasm. For example, when you fall in love with a foodie. Yah! Love is blind and all that. And you walk on the ember, swim through the river, glide against the winds.....wait, wait...I never did that though. I just learnt to cook. And not just the basic meal of roti-sabji, rice-dal. But a variety of dishes. The number of dishes kept adding to the variety list after my sons were born. They are as foodie as their dad.

And that day, was 'Mein Kampf'....well my struggle, my tryst with Puranpoli. I nailed it, though not in appearance, but yes, in flavour.

"Wow, you've come a long way. I thought you would never cook in your life. You are trying different dishes. So you like cooking now, wonderful", mom vocalised her emotions. I just chuckled and didn't vocalise what was on my mind, "Never have I ever liked cooking, Aai. I am just doing it because my family loves to eat".
