School - The temple of knowledge! (Part 1)
School is temple of knowledge', we all know this saying, don't we?
Knowledge, yeah, all kinds of knowledge is what you get at school. From studying to bunking classes, from making friends to making boyfriends and girlfriends, from skill sets in certain subjects to subjecting yourself to bullying, from respecting teachers to teaching how to prank the teachers, from sharing and caring to daring and stunts, 'Pheww', yes possibly everything.
The first friends that we make are in early years of our school. Cannot remember exactly how and when, but the wavelengths (whatever that means at that young age) matched and some of us are still friends, in contact, reuniting and having fun.
We had no social media then, but if we had, it would've flooded with pictures, videos and chatters, of us all. We had a very dynamic group. We choreographed dances for our annual functions, we did skits, dramas, plays, we participated in inter-school competitions.
After each exam, our group, used to meet at any of our friend's house. The movies 'Lamhe' and 'Qayamat se Qayamat tak', we literally watched Qayamat tak. That was like a ritual for us. Potluck, making bhel together, picnics...see, we definitely were knowledgeable party animals.
Studying was the priority, obviously but we participated in all extracurricular activities.
Tiffins were shared during the short recess and the long recess was reserved to play, be it kabaddi, kho-kho, cricket, volleyball or just running around the huge ground that our school had.
Our school wasn't a colossal type. It was a single storey building, spread across, with an open assembly in the middle. There were big old trees, under whose shade, the prayers would begin, every morning. Singing National Anthem in a loud and clear voice, verbatim, screaming, if I may say. Which class has the highest decibels, was actually a competition. Yes! Competition, yet another discovery of school time.
The classrooms weren't air-conditioned, as they are these days. Summers would be harsh, but thanks to the vacations in May, we could somehow survive the April with the sometimes moving other times unrepaired fans.
But all this was never a hindrance for us to have a fabulous time during our school days. We enjoyed even with all the shortcomings, our energies and effervescence would cover up all of that. Thus, Adjustment, the skill set added to our cart.
Sharing bench with close friends, scribbling notes during lectures and giggling on internal jokes was great fun. When a lecture would stretch more than the stipulated time, some tiffins would open from the last benches. Everybody could smell the food, but no one complained. Whole class would be an accomplice at such times. Loyalty, what an attribute to learn!
"Homework not done? Kneel down, outside the class", was teacher's favourite line. And some students shamelessly would oblige, feeling happy to not attend the class. Sustaining, that's how it was learnt.
