Turning back time - Part 2.

The next stop was the picture tube Television set, placed in a corner with people sitting around, watching it. This huge rectangular box came with an antenna that was supposed to be installed in your balcony or terrace....commentary commenced.

Television brought the family together after dinners. Family members used to watch the serials together after finishing their chores for the day. The content that was displayed was healthy and mostly fit for all age groups. Serials of different genre, Family story like 'Hum Log', comedy  ones like 'Wagle ki Duniya', cartoons on Sundays, 'Ramayan', 'Mahabharat', and list of other TV programs were played.

It was a means for entertainment and family time. Unlike nowadays, the smart TV sets with OTTs providing so much of unnecessary information to kids. It cocoons members with their own devices, to watch what they want exclusively.

Watching Television collectively, this as a concept is slowly fading away.....said the commentary.

I was a bit disheartened after this particular jaunt. I could see how my kids stick to their screens watching useless stuff day in and out. And how I am engrossed in my webseries, preventing me to spend time with them.

Albeit, we proceeded. And here is the famous Ambassador car...commentary went on. This white automobile was most sought after in olden days. It was a prestigious point to own it. The royal appearance parked outside your house would make news.

My grandfather was Assistant Collector and so we had a chauffeur driven white Ambassador. I remember how 10 people at a time, adults and kids together, we used to tuck in and go on trips. We enjoyed all of that. Being together was the important thing, means of travel was secondary.

Nowadays, we have all kinds of plush cars, with huge boots, lot of space. Yet, kids keep complaining how they can't sit for few hours.

My younger kid screamed, Look there's a tiger. And I zapped out of my reverie. I looked around. It was the zoo and not the amusement park of the bygone days.

I wished I had stayed there a little more. I wish we could turn back time!
