Yet reigning her heart?

"Wearing a saree? What if it rains? Salwar-kameej looks equally formal", Rekha said. Neelam looked into the mirror. She had the folded saree on her left shoulder, as she glanced if the colour looked good.

After hearing her friend Rekha's suggestion to wear a salwar-kameej, she put the saree down and opened her cupboard again.

"Wait, I will help you select", said Rekha, as she went through the wardrobe. "Wow! This yellow Luckhnowi looks elegant ", Rekha said, as she took out the dress from the hanger.

"Not this one", Neelam abruptly pulled the dress from Rekha's hands.

"Kya hua? Itna gussa itne khoobsurat dress par", Rekha said.

Neelam held the dress close to her chest. The climate outside suddenly changed. Dark clouds gathered in the sky and it started thundering. And before she knew, precipitation of her emotions happened, tears rolled down her eyes.

"Seems a special gift. Was it your ex?", Rekha winked.

Neelam threw the dress on her bed at next instance. "I'm not going to wear this", she said wiping her tears.

"Babes, you crying? kya hua", Rekha asked.

"Yes, it was a gift from my ex-boyfriend. But it's not special anymore", Neelam replied firmly.

"Rajiv was his name", Neelam said.

"Ah! That guy from the picture frame I saw last year in your drawer?", Rekha interrupted.

"Hmmm. Rajiv and me studied in the same college. We were madly in love with each other. He has proposed to me and we had promised to be together forever. But people change with time....", Neelam's eyes were watery once again.

Rekha hugged her, "Babe, chill....wear some other dress. Just forget about all this. I can't see you sad. It's your day. You've a perfect presentation ready for the conference. Now let's not ruin it with all this unwanted nostalgia", Rekha comforted her.

"Thankyou sweetie, for always being there", Neelam smiled.

She got dressed and all decked up. Scanning her checklist, she made sure everything was packed and set.

She wheeled her trolley bag and hung her purse on the shoulder and was prepared to leave.

"All the best babe", Rekha high-fived her.

Neelam was a confident woman. She had worked her way up the hierarchy to make a position for herself.

She reached the railway station. And it started raining cats and dogs. She took out her handkerchief and wiped the face and hair, that were partially drenched in the rains. She flipped her dupatta to brush off the splashed water.

And the man, in front of her, covered his face to avoid the water that was about to splatter from her dupatta onto his face.

"Oh! I am so sorry", Neelam said and froze there and then as the man removed his hand from his face. It was Rajiv. She had seen him after 5 years. She didn't know how to react.

Rajiv snapped his fingers in front of her eyes, "I never had thought we would meet here, this way. How have you been?", he said.

The flashback just zapped before her eyes. Rajiv's smiling face as he hugged her. The shivers that went down her spine when they had first kissed. Their dates, holding hands, watching movies, everything was as clear as yesterday.

Rajiv's, 'how have you been?', pierced her heart some more.

She wanted to run away that very moment. But she wasn't a college girl anymore. She was a grown up woman who took her career challenges head on.

Then why was it difficult now?, she thought. Was he yet reigning her heart? Wasn't she over him yet? But he had abandoned her. It wasn't her fault. She had waited for months, but he never returned.

The downpour had increased and it was zigzag and haphazard. It seemed cruel on delicate plants along the tracks. They had collapsed from the heavy blows of the rain.

Rajiv smiled and his beaming face looked enticing.

Was she ready to leave behind all the pain she went through the years? Was she going to forgive him, if he said sorry? Would he patch up or had he moved on? Neelam's heart was again a mess. He had yet again reigned her heart!
