The night of untold secrets!

"Tere liye sapnoki jhalar bunu,

kaliyonsa gajare mei bandhe firu,

dhoop lage jaha tujhe chaya banu,

Aaja sajana....."

Sapna was listening to her favorite songs on Caravan......weaving her dreams of having her happy family with Prateek.

Prateek and Sapna were madly in love with each other. They had met in first year of college and were still together, even after 7 years.

Sapna was waiting for Prateek that evening. She wanted to surprise him with a good news....news that they are going to be a family soon. Sapna was pregnant, "So what if we are not married yet? Our love is pure and I know after knowing about the baby, Prateek will soon tie a knot!", she assured herself. She wanted to hold what was hers tightly and the not let the clench set loose.

Prateek's parents were against this love. "She's an orphan. God knows who and how her parents were? We are a reputed family, we can't accept a girl who's background is vague", Prateek's parents had argued.

Sapna had heard this, standing outside their living room. She had screamed in a fit and become aggressive, she had thrown the planter next to the door.

"Oh God! And in addition, she's mentally unstable. Who will want a crazy daughter-in-law? How will we face the society?, Prateek's parents detested her behaviour.

Prateek had held Sapna in his arms, patting her back gently, had said, "She's not crazy, she just has anxiety attacks, we are working on it. She is taking her counselling sessions with a good doctor. She's going to be fine soon", Prateek had tried to convince his parents (or was reassuring himself?).

That day to this day, Sapna had never visited Prateek's house again. She was feeling guilty, cause of her behaviour and also for letting down Prateek. She stood in the balcony, staring at the road, so that she could see Prateek's car entering her complex gates.

Prateek, on the other hand, dressed in the groom's suit, was looking dapper. With a saafa on his head, riding the horse, with baratis dancing around, he was getting married. He had finally succumbed to family pressure. Although with a fake smile on, he was ready for this alliance, tonight..... unaware of Sapna being pregnant and waiting for him. He wanted to stay put but couldn't persevere more.

The song changed to..."Yeh mulaqat ek bahana hai.....pyaar ka silsila purana hai...", Sapna with eager eyes, gently caressing her tummy, still standing at the balcony, staring into the dark night......unaware of her lover getting married, breaking their promise and shattering her dreams. The sand had already slipped from her grip and her palms were empty.

The more we try to clasp it tight, the more it escapes from our hands, and that's destiny for all of us!
