Neil scanned every nook and corner of the club but couldn't find Neha. He went outside to see if she was there, but invain.
Neil pulled out his car and drove on the streets nearby, to see if she was around. It was crazy of him to do so, but he didn't want to miss her this time.
"It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart,
Without saying a word, you light up the dark,
Try as they may, they can never explain,
What I hear when you don't say a thing......".
The song by Ronan Kneating, was playing on Neil's music player and he got lost in his reverie.
Neha was a shy, quiet girl, in her college. She didn't have many frinds. She was a studious girl and never hung out pointlessly in the campus. She attended all her classes and headed straight home. The place where she was spotted other than her classroom, was the library.
Neil on the other hand was a flamboyant young man. Not very good at academics but was a good sportsman. Being captain of the basketball team, he had secured lot of trophies for the college. Neil missed his lectures for basketball practice, quite often.
That day, he saw Neha coming out of the library. Neha, in her red salwar kameej and her sober beauty, blew his mind and fluttered his heart. He started attending his lectures when he found out Neha was in his class.
A passing car honked loudly and Neil snapped out of his thoughts.
"All day long I can hear people talking out loud,
But when you hold me, you drown out the crowd,
Try as they may, they can never define,
What's been said between your heart and mine.....", the song continued to play.
He looked all around the venue and felt trounced, as there was no trace of her. He slowed down and parked the car in an empty spot to the left. He got down and started walking aimlessly, thinking about her.
Neha never had a boyfriend nor did she talk to boys in their class. She for sure didn't even know their names.
Neil had made plans to talk to Neha. He was getting ready for college and his dad handed him a letter. It was an admission letter to a foreign university. "You are not taking studies seriously, so I've decided to send you abroad", said his dad. Dad wanted Neil to takeover his business soon.
Neil had to hunker down to dad's ruling. He left the country, to return only after completing his Business Management degree, after four years.
Neil stumbled upon a big stone on the road and somebody held his hand, avoiding the fall. Neil couldn't believe his eyes. It was Neha, with the gift in her hand, replaced by her stilettos. She seemed scared and panting. She mumbled, "Could you give me a lift, Neil?". Neil was startled, "She knows my name?". He looked around and saw two men approaching them speedily. Neil quickly unlocked the car and they both got seated.
The song continued......
"The smile on your face let's me know that you need me,
There's truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me,
The touch of your hand, says you'll catch me wherever I fall...
You say it best, when you say nothing at all.....".
