Yeh vada raha!
Just because I said so?, said her baba, tears rolled down his eyes. Her maa patted his back, sharing his sorrow, her eyes drenched in tears too.
Suhana had visited them after 4 years. Her son was 2 years old.
She had met Adi while attending a sketching class. Adi was assisting a curator at an exhibition centre. He was a painter himself. His inclination towards art was so vivid, that he had decided to learn every detail, from painting the picture to exhibiting his talent, the entire process. Suhana was studying commerce and wanted to carry on her passion of sketching. So to brush up her skills and make it more professional, she had joined the class. The curator had sent Adi to the sketch teacher to know about the exhibit entries for their upcoming event.
The teacher asked Adi for a favour. He requested Adi to be the muse for the day, as the person responsible didn't turn up. The students were waiting to start their sketching class. Adi agreed and went inside the classroom.
Suhana was sitting in front of her easel, the canvas was covering her face. Adi sat on the stool facing all the students. Suhana shifted her easel a bit to see his face. The soft breeze blew her hair and, Adi and Suhana's eyes met. Adi couldn't take off his eyes from Suhana. Adi was the muse but he himself had got smitten by Suhana's beauty.
Suhana blushed, but she had to keep looking at him, to complete her sketch. After that day, they kept meeting and decided to date. Suhana's parents were strict. Especially her dad. Every time, she had to secretly meet Adi and had told him that she was scared. What if they get caught? But Adi always comforted her saying they will face it together.
Suhana finished her graduation and got a job in a bank. Adi too had gained confidence in his work. He slowly started with his own exhibitions on a small scale. So both of them decided to get married now.
"I don't know Adi how to face my parents. I am worried how would they react!", Suhana said. Adi's parents had passed away few years ago. He had no one to accompany him to talk to Suhana's parents. So he had decided to do it on his own.
"I have reached Suhana. Please open the door", Adi texted Suhana. Suhana was busy in the kitchen and her maa read the message. She showed it to her baba. "Suhana!", her baba had called aloud.
The shivers made the spoon from Suhana's hands fall with a bang, on the kitchen floor. She switched off the gas and rushed to the living room. Adi was standing there and her baba's eyes had literally turned red. "What's all this? Who is this boy? Why is he here?", baba asked furiously.
Suhana was dumb struck. "A...A..Adi, his name is Adi, baba", she couldn't even speak properly.
"Why is he here? How do you know him?", Suhana could see her father's hands trembling now. Suhana started sobbing.
Adi said, "I am here to seek permission from both of you, Suhana and me know each other for a year now. We have decided to get married and we want your blessings, maa and baba!".
"What marriage? What maa and baba? Are you out of your mind? What do you do? Where are your parents? Such things are discussed between elders", said baba.
"My parents have passed away, So I am the elder in my family. I am a painter, I have been exhibiting my paintings recently", before Adi could finish, baba slapped Suhana. "You both are insane", he said.
Adi tried to go close to Suhana but baba stopped him. "Get out of here at once or Suhana will have to pay for your misdeeds".
Suhana shook her head and asked Adi to leave.
"A painter! What are you even thinking? Did we send you to college to do such things? No family background, no manners, no stable income and he wants to marry my daughter? Suhana you are our only daughter. We can't marry you off to any Tom, Dick and Harry. We will find a prince for you, don't worry!", said her baba. "Stop that job of yours, no need to go there anymore. Now you will step out only for your marriage", he added.
Suhana texted Adi about what her baba had said. They were so madly in love that they couldn't live without each other. And Suhana decided to elope. At wee hours of one night, she packed her bags, wiping her tears. Bidding a final goodbye to her sleeping parents, she left home.
Adi and Suhana got married. Adi insisted that they should seek blessings from her parents. They reached Suhana's house but her baba stopped them at the door.
"Never ever step again in this house, you are dead to us. You have betrayed your maa and baba, our feelings, our love, everything, you have crushed to pieces", he had blurted in anger. Her maa couldn't say anything and closed her eyes, tears rolling down profusely.
Suhana hadn't visited them for 4 years now. But today she got a call from her maa. She rushed to the hospital. Her dad had an heart attack and was admitted.
Suhana saw her baba, she said, as she sobbed, "Baba get well soon!".
And Baba wiping his tears, with a helpless look, said, "Just because I said so...so you didn't turn back?"
Suhana held his hand tight and said, "Sorry! Maa and Baba, now that I am a mother, I can understand your feelings. I will never leave you, Yeh wada raha".
