Once upon a heartbeat! - (11)
Palpitations :
Alora entered the complex and stepped into the elevator. The company's circular logo gleamed as the door of the elevator opened. And as she shifted her gaze, equally gleaming, in an elegant suit, Armaan was standing there with his tan leather bag.
He opened the entrance door and said, "After you Miss Alora", with his one palm pointing inside, welcoming her, like a gentleman.
Alora, hesitantly, walked towards him. "Good Morning Sir", she said. As she came near, she could smell the musky fragrance of his perfume. Alora tried to enter through the door but Armaan was occupying sizeable space, holding the door. She looked at him but he didn't move an inch. She was compelled to brush pass him. The musky fragrance intensified as she passed. Her heart raced with the momentary contact. She held her dupatta close to her bosom, thereby, he wouldn't hear her pounding heart.
Armaan looked at Alora closely as she passed. His gaze was eminent, even though, she avoided his glimpse. "This is just like a scene in the novel", Alora thought as her palpitations increased.
Armaan followed her in. Without looking behind, she just thanked him and continued walking. She could sense his presence closely walking in the rear. All this was new for her. Was this the enamoured feeling which she used to read in the books? Was this a part of, what romance was all about? And experiencing it for the first time, was just so pristine for her. The situation was no more a trap. It was getting interesting.
Her subordinate took her to the desk and explained her the day's tasks. Armaan's cabin was just opposite to her desk. The translucent glass enabled her to peek in. She could see his silhouette, seated in his chair, working on the laptop. She kept glancing at him, in between her chores.
The phone on her desk beeped, "Please come in Miss Alora", it was Armaan, on the line.
Alora got up from her seat swiftly and entered his cabin. The newly acquainted musky fragrance was lingering inside.
"Take a look....", Armaan got up and moved his hands around, as if showing her his cabin. "You seemed to be interested in my cabin. Your eyes kept scanning in here, Alora", Armaan added with a chuckle. Armaan stood close to her.
Alora clinched her teeth, feeling embarrassed. She got jittery in Armaan's proximity. Her heart once again deceived her by beating rapidly than it ever did. "I....I was just.....", she couldn't articulate. "Gazing at me!", Armaan finished her sentence.
"No...Sir...I mean...I was curious about the ambience in here. I was just observing things around....Sir..", Alora rattled on trying to cover up. But her whopper didn't work.
Armaan smirked and said, "Well then sit down and take a proper look. Let's positively conclude your curiosity".
Alora's eyes literally dilated. She looked at Armaan with raised eyebrows and big eyes. "He meant... proper look at the cabin or him?", Alora blushed at her own thoughts.
She swallowed back the lump in her throat. Armaan smiled, yet again and asked her to carry on with the day's work.
Alora left his cabin, her heart was still thumping. She felt so awkward that she sat at her desk, head down. She kept thinking about him, nevertheless.
