 We've reached, when are you coming?, Ayushi called Dharaa.

It's my last round in the ward. Then I will wrap up and join you guys. Until then buy the tickets and some popcorn for me, Dharaa said.

Dharaa finished her duty and reached her apartment. She stayed alone in the city because of her job in the hospital here. Her parents visited her sometimes and few times, she went to her hometown, mostly during festivals if time permitted. She got ready and left for the movie. 

She stopped at a signal and to her surprise she saw Prithvi. He was chasing someone on the opposite street. He was dressed in a bomber jacket, tee and jeans. Dharaa being this inquisitive person, turned her car and parked it along the opposite street. She got out of the car and started following Prithvi. 

Prithvi entered a deserted alley. Twilight made the hues darker and the ambience unlit. The street lights were flickering as they slowly switched on, along the length of the street, one by one. 

Prithvi's reflexes seemed phenomenal. He caught hold of the person he was chasing. He twisted the person's arms and gripped them behind his back. He pushed the person against a wrecked wall. The person started pleading to Prithvi to release him.

Dharaa noticed the scene and quickly ran away, towards the corner of the street, which was well lit. She hid behind a wall, gasping. Is he a mafia? A gangster? What if he has a gun? I knew something was wrong. He seemed suspicious from the beginning. Should I help that person? But what if the person is a thief? Maybe Prithvi isn't guilty. Why am I doubtful of Prithvi? His disappearance from the hospital makes me, time and again, think that something's wrong, I guess. But he had apologised that day. He said he was in a hurry. I should give him a benefit of doubt, Dharaa's thoughts kept nagging her. 

Her phone beeped, Ain't you coming saheli? Kaha ho?, Ayushi's message.

And a sudden deep voice broke her chain of thoughts. Doctor Dharaa? What are you doing here?, it said.

Dharaa shut her eyes tightly. She knew whose voice it was, it was Prithvi's, for sure. But she couldn't pluck up courage to face him. 

Are you okay? This is an isolated area. You shouldn't be here at this time, he said further.

Dharaa slowly opened her eyes. I....I was....are you a gangster Prithvi Rathod?, she said abruptly and stood there staring at him.

Did you see what happened in the alley? Are you really following me?, Prithvi asked, looking back at her. His eyes sparkled even when his tone was slightly vexed. 

Dharaa gazed into his sparkling eyes. She forgot what she had seen sometime ago. But as she realised, she shifted her gaze, feeling embarrassed and alarmed too. I wasn't following....you....I ...I was just passing by and saw you running. Yes I...followed you to the alley. And you were hitting that person. Oh! Where's he? Is he injured? Does he need any first aid? Prithvi Rathod who are you?, she couldn't stop her interrogation. 

Prithvi looked around and said, It's not safe to be here. Can we sit and talk? Let's go to that café, he pointed towards a café across the street.

Prithvi got a call. Yes, I've taken care of it. It's done, he said and hung up.

I'm tied up again. Won't be able to make it. You guys enjoy, Dharaa sent a text to Ayushi, while Prithvi was on his phone.

Should I really go with him? What if he holds me hostage? Can I trust him?, Dharaa had thousand questions in her mind. She thought about all the scenarios that she had read in those detective novels, which made her more sceptical.

Don't worry, I'm not a gangster. You are safe with me Dharaa, Prithvi said with a chuckle. 

I'm a doctor. I saved him once, so I shouldn't be scared, Dharaa's soliloquy. 

They both crossed the road and entered the café.

  And 2024 ends..... She was sitting on the bench under the huge tree. Its extensive branches covered few more benches around. The park was a hangout place for teenagers. It was a playground for children and a perfect site for the exercise enthusiasts. People jogged, wearing headphones, determined to shed those extra kilos and be fitter, sticking to their new year resolutions, was a familiar sight here.  Yuga wasn't feeling the vibe today. "You should be able to dance or sing or play a musical instrument!" Oh my my! So much pressure on these little one's learning to adapt and traverse the lanes and by lanes of this complicated world. "But its a rat race! He/she needs to figure it out sooner. Studies, career, universities, the stress builds up as they advance into their grades (classes), isn't it?" Yes, true. It's a tough task for the coming generations. Population is ever increasing. Even though the colleges and courses are increasing in numbers but we have no say on the quality of education they impart. Also the leading universities and colleges are always the first priority, obviously. So the newbies are looked down upon. Also the reservations hinder the paths of many.
