Devi - Verse 2.

 "Devi! What a beautiful name,

A lady full of culture and shame (read Laaj),

Cooking, cleaning, looking after your house,

You must be a beloved spouse!"

I get this quite often,

Yes, I am devi, but with a caution,

I hate cleaning and cooking,

I prefer going out and working.

I want freedom from narrow minded thinking,

I love to get dressed and am considering inking,

Fashion and trends I love to follow,

I enjoy going on trips solo.

What goes in Dal Makhni, I am totally unaware,

Making me learn complex recipes, is totally unfair!

I wish to work and generate some revenue,

Dream big, aspire and unlock new avenues.

Staying home and doing mundane chores,

Isn't my cup of tea....lingering indoors,

Completing tasks gives me a high,

Deadlines and meetings, sipping coffee and chai.

Pizza, pasta, burgers tempt me sometimes,

I cheat on my diet quite a few times,

Dal-chawal is my favourite too,

Cakes, chocolates, I can't have, said who?

Don't make me fit into a frame,

What if Devi is my name?

Should I always act Godly?

This parochial behaviour bothers me oddly.

I want my freedom from all the judging eyes,

"You are a lady, behave....", and similar cries,

Being a lady doesn't mean you ought to be second,

Being a lady doesn't mean you always need to bend!

Limiting your thoughts to some baseless guidelines,

Doing endless chores day in and out, damaging your spines,

Whom do you want to prove and what?

Your aspirations, your dreams, once, try to give them a shot.

I want to fly high with no fear in minds,

Cutting the string that ties me up and binds,

Soaring heights with my strength,

Going on, conquering all widths and lengths.

I am Devi, so I should use my power,

To grow step by step and tower,

The divinity isn't always being homely and plain,

It also means being positive and doubts to slain.

Let me be a Devi, that also means excellence,

Triumphing and proving my brilliance,

Not just limiting myself to a house,

Working successfully, shoulder to shoulder, with my spouse!
