Part 3 - The breakup party!

Gautam got enraged, but Gargi looked unequivocally into Gautam's eyes and continued, "I am the one who even chooses her lehenga carefully. I don't like to compromise on anything. If it's silver sequences then it ought to be. But I never was so rigid for decisions involving you Gautam. When you had asked me to hand over one of my clients to you, I gladly did it. When you had asked me to step down from making an important presentation, I happily handed over the documents to you. You took many such opportunities from me to jump up to higher post, but I didn't mind, because I loved you. When you had cancelled our dates on several occasions for attending meetings scheduled on eleventh hour, I appreciated your hard work. But when you had asked me to have coffee alone, with that client of yours, I shouldn't have agreed. I had told you that he wasn't respectful towards me, but you had brushed off the conversation. I trusted you and remained silent. Today the client groped me, when you were standing next to me and you ask me to let it slide? What if tomorrow he asks me to sleep with him? Will you force me to do that too?".

"Stop it", Gautam's mom said, with a weird scream. "Who do you think you are? Miss Universe? How dare you put such allegations on my son?".

"How dare I? Being a woman yourself, don't you empathise even a little bit? Would you be ok with doing all this, aunty?", Gargi questioned.

Gautam's mom glanced at her husband, while he tried to escape the gaze. Her eyes drenched in tears, she was speechless. Gautam's father got all worked up now. "Stop with this nonsense now. A wife has to support her husband in all walks of life. She has to understand that it's difficult to maintain a status, a specific standard of living. Once the opportunity in career is lost, you are ruined...". Gautam's mother interrupted, "And what about ruining your wife's life? Her emotions? Her will?", she broke down and weeped uncontrollably. "I didn't know when my son became exactly like his father", she said, breaking more into tears.

Gautam was shocked. He rushed to console his mother. But she hurtled his hands. Gargi was dumbfounded, she hugged Gautam's mom.

"If I had been as bold as you, then...", Gautam's mother said. Gargi wiped her tears, "It's never too late", Gargi smiled and said. They both held each other's hand tightly and walked out of the banquet.

At a pan stall somewhere outside, the song played.....

Mere Saiyyan ji se aaj meine breakup kar diya.......

Some breakups need to be celebrated!

  1. Millions of women have let go unfathomable torture just for the break. Luckily, we are in a era where women can step up and leave. Indeed a breakup worth celebrating.
