Neha's face was all puffed from crying the entire night. Early in the morning, she was getting ready for her office and her phone beeped. She had received a text message from an unknown number.

"Can we meet again?", it read. "It's Neil", she thought. She ignored the message and rushed for the office.

She stood in the line at the bus stop. The bus was already full, so she had to stand again, in the bus. She peeped in her phone to check whether her face was better, but the puffiness was still noticeable. The bus braked abruptly and her hand felt a drastic pull. It reminded her of the party, when Neil had pulled her hand, out of the blue.

"How did he recognise me in that insufficient light? Why did he hold my hand? Had he liked me previously?", she kept getting hundreds of thoughts. She was so into her own brooding that she hadn't given a thought to Neil's behaviour.

"He wants to meet, is he interested in me? But can I, in this situation, really have time for all this?", she shook her head in negation.

Conductor rung the bell for her stop, Neha revived from her dwam and got down.

To settle her thoughts, she sat down on the bench, at the bus stop.

The song by Maroon5 was playing at the nearby gift store....

"Here's to the ones that we got,

Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not,

'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories

Of everything we've been through,

Toast to the ones here today,

Toast to the ones that we lost on the way....."

That winter, after Neil disappeared and Neha was already broken hearted, she also lost her mom. Her dad collapsed and was admitted to the hospital. The winter had seemed more colder and bitter. Neha had no one to share her feelings to. She felt lonely and abandoned. She had to sell their house to pay for her dad's hospital expenses. Her life had taken an extreme twist. She started working part-time, while studying. The hardships had taken a toll on her. She had stopped smiling, she was on her toes 24/7.

Her ringing phone broke her trance. It was a call from the hospital nurse. "Your dad isn't eating since yesterday", she said.

Neha called her office to tell that she would be late today.

The song was still playing...

"There's a time that I remember, when I never felt so lost,

When I felt all of the hatred was too powerful to stop,

Now my heart feel like an ember and it's lightning up the dark,

I'll carry these torches for ya, that you know I'll never drop,

Everybody hurts sometimes,

Everybody hurts someday,

But everything gonna be alright, go and raise a glass and say......

And the memories bring back, memories bring back you...".

Tears rolled down Neha's eyes. She wiped her face and scampered to the hospital.
