"Please sign here Miss Verma", said the registrar of the college office.
Tara completed the formalities. Akash helped her with the paperwork.
"Is he your guardian?", the registrar asked pointing towards Akash.
"Umm..no...he is a friend!" Tara said as she glanced at Akash. "Actually my grandmother had accompanied me but she had a meeting so she left. She has already done the signatures wherever needed, in Principal's office", Tara explained.
"Okay then you can join in from tomorrow Miss Tara Verma", said the registrar.
"Now this calls for celebration. You should definitely join us tomorrow Tara", Akash said clapping his hands a few times.
Tara looked around, feeling a little embarrassed. "I will have to ask nani", she said in a very low tone, almost whispering.
They both stepped out of the office and Akash spoke, "Tara don't be constantly fearful. Don't run from your emotions. It's okay to celebrate, it's okay to show your happiness. It's not a crime". Akash wanted Tara to be more eloquent about her feelings. But the next moment he felt that he was over stepping.
"I'm sorry if I've transgressed the limits. I just wanted you to know what I feel", Akash added.
Tara smiled and said, "Thankyou for letting me know. Please don't apologise Akash".
Tara looked into his eyes and continued, "Akash your words comfort me, everytime. I admire you being so mature, kind and hard working. Helping without expecting in return, not many are capable of it doing it. But you went out of your way to actually succour during my exigency. I'm sure you have a loving and courteous family, it shows. And I'm grateful that you consider me as your friend".
"Well, yes I've a loving mom, my dad's no more with us. And Tara I would be happier to consider you as my girlfriend. Would you oblige?", Akash pursed his lips, raised his eyebrows and stared at Tara, waiting for her answer.
Tara was shocked to hear. It was so sudden a confession that she didn't know how to react, "Girlfriend?", she babbled. "Am I... qualified enough? I'm an undergrad as of now, nothing's special about me. You are a confident, independent man. Akash, don't you deserve better?", Tara voiced her opinion.
"To see what's special about you, you need my eye, Tara! You are the only star of my sky", Akash recited the lines gazing at her big hazel eyes.
Tara's eyes shied away from his gaze but the butterflies in her stomach couldn't hide. For the first time someone had genuinely confessed to her and in such a poetically pleasing way. And her heart thumped as if playing drums frantically.
